Let’s be clear about something. Despite the attractive woman in the logo, this site is about geek-tech first and sexiness second. Or is it the other way around?

Well, it doesn’t really matter. But this article is NOT going to be about the Miley Cyrus shower pictures that have given the World Wide Web a collective search orgasm. Well, not primarily. It’s also not going to be about the Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair scandal or the sexy underwear photos she took for Nick Jonas. Well, again, not primarily.

This article is not about the sexiness of a 16 year old celebrity. Rather, it’s about the fact that the entire world seems to come together in common fellowship to sneak a glance at scandalous and sexy pictures of a young teenager, and why geeks like me get excited about that fact.

Enough, though with the rhetoric. Let’s get to the reasons that geeks like me get excited by sexy celebrity scandals on the Internet.

1. Miley Cyrus = Massive Search Traffic

There is no one in the world right now who has the ability to drive search traffic like Miley Cyrus. Sure, Vanessa Hudgens went nude. But Miley Cyrus’ non-nude scandalous pics have driven far more traffic. What about Britney Spears, you ask? Well, she’s a has been. Miley Cyrus is the new queen of Internet.

2. Miley Cyrus = Money

Since Miley Cyrus is now the most searched for celebrity on the Internet according to Google Trends, she has the potential to drive pageviews through the roof. And as all web-geeks know (at least those who run their own websites) there is a direct correlaton between pageviews and advertising revenue.

3. Miley Cyrus = Long Term Opportunity

Unless she has a freak accident and dies, Miley has only been around for about 3 years and unlike Britney Spears, has at least 5-7 years before the fuel starts to burn out. If you’re lucky, she could have a good 10 years left. The Onion News Network confirms this observation:

If there’s anything that all geeks like, it’s power. The power to hack. The power to control products more completely and thoroughly than the average consumer. The power to understand things more completely than the average citizen. Miley Cyrus gives the geek the ultimate tool for understanding and controlling human psychology as it expresses itself in online search. It’s reverse human psychology. If you understand what makes people tick, you can make people tick up your bank account.

5. Miley Cyrus = The Next Great Trainwreck

Presuming for a second that my geek psychology is similar to others… I think I can say that we delight in seeing the empty shell of a famous celebrity start down the notorious downward spiral of a self-indulgent trainwreck. Geeks like to be reminded that they are the ones that have the things that matter most over the long-haul: intelligence, know-how, self-control and of course… self-reliance.
